About

Giorgi Gurgenadze was born in 2003 Tbilisi, Georgia. He was immersed in music since the age of 7. Giorgi’s parents are musicians, so the music has always been the part of his life.

He started playing cello at the age of 11, but before, he was playing the piano(2010-2013) and the trumpet(2012-2015).

While playing the piano he won the state competition in 4 hands in 2012. He commenced his cello lessons at the age of 11 with Mikheil Khoshtaria, who was lately his teacher in Tbilisi State Conservatoire, and his passion for the instrument has increased ever since. During his time in the junior school, Giorgi won the prize in 2017 for the most virtuosic player in the competition called “Rondo Classic”.

He had privilege to be part of “Música Mundi” summer festival in 2022, where he had lessons with Vladimir Perlin, Alexandra Soumm, Jacques Rouier, Andreas Frolich. Giorgi has had the privilege to have masterclasses with Vladimir Perlin and Philip Higham.

After graduating junior school, he began studying in Tbilisi State Conservatoire. In 2022 he moved to Glasgow at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland as an Erasmus+ exchange student and began studying with Martin Storey. He has been involved in projects as: the Grit Orchestra, Holocaust Memorial Day, Scottish Women Composers day.

He also took the part in the “Celtic Connections” festival, winter 2023. Giorgi is also a part of chamber group “Georgian Chamber Soloist” an have been touring in Europe with them in the summer of 2021,2022 and the December-January of 2022-23. In 2024 Giorgi also auditioned for a place to study at “Royal College of Music “ in London and was lucky to get a place to study at Alexander Boyarsky class.

In 2024 Giorgi was chosen as a scholar of “Toradze International Music Festival”. Asides from classical music, he is also interested in folk music and has already composed several musical pieces. Giorgi is currently in 4th year of his bachelors degree.
