About

Costa Pilavachi is currently co-curator of Music at the Athens and Epidaurus Festival in Greece.

Between 1989-1997 he served as Vice-President, A+R, Philips Music Group, and from 1998-2009 as President of Philips, Decca Music Group and EMI Classics. From 2010-2016 he was Senior-Vice President, Classical A+R at Universal Music Group International, overseeing the programming of classical labels Decca and Deutsche Grammophon.

Prior to entering the recording business he was the Artistic Administrator of the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Seiji Ozawa (1985-89).

He began his career in 1973 working at a record shop in Ottawa, Canada, as a student and went on to become Director of Sales at David Haber Artists Management in Toronto. He was then appointed Director of Music at Toronto’s St. Lawrence Centre and later Director of the Music Department at Ottawa’s National Arts Centre, before leaving Canada for the USA in 1985.

He also serves on a variety of boards and advisory committees, such as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, European Union Youth Orchestra, Istanbul Music Festival, International Mozart Society, Salzburg, and others.

In 2023 he became an advisor of Toradze International Music Festival.
