Hailed for her ‘phenomenal technique and sparkling play of colours’ (Opus Klassiek), her ‘rich tonal repertoire and enchanting melodic shaping’ (Turun Sanomat) and ‘great skill and intensity’ (Flute Journal), Noemi Gyori is a unique voice on the classical music scene. She is a renowned soloist and chamber musician on both the modern and baroque flutes, her creative programming and interpretations of a strikingly broad repertoire are built on the unshakeable bedrock of flawless technique, enchanting tonal richness and painstaking scholarly research; qualities that have held audiences spellbound in more than thirty countries worldwide.
Highlights of the 2023/24 season include the premiere of Thaleia Concerto by British composer, Christian Mason with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège and the BBC National Orchestra of
Wales, the Hungarian premiere of Mieczysław Weinberg’s Op.75 First Flute Concerto as well as performances of Ibert’s Flute Concerto with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra and the Georgian Philharmonic Orchestra. Noemi’s sixth solo album, Exploration released earlier in the season with celebrated French-Hungarian pianist, Suzana Bartal has been praised by critiques internationally and has generated a live appearance on Générations France Musique in Paris.
Having graduated with honours from the Liszt Academy of Music and completed postgraduate studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, where her teachers included Henrik Prőhle, Barbara Gisler-Haase, András Adorján and Lisa Beznosiuk and Benedek Csalog on the baroque flute; in 2020, Noemi became the first flutist in history to be awarded a PhD in Performance Practice from the Royal Academy of Music in London.
In addition to her solo career, Noemi is a sought after recitalist and is also principal flautist of the Jewish Chamber Orchestra Munich since 2008 and has played as a guest member with the BBC Philharmonic and Vienna Philharmonic (Vienna State Opera) orchestras. She regularly appears as adjudicator on international competitions (most recently the Tampere Flute Fest Young Performer Competition 2024), she has lead masterclasses at top conservatoires and specialist schools on three continents and has been for over a decade, flute Tutor at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music and since 2019 the University of Manchester.
Apart from her critically acclaimed six solo albums released on Rubicon, Hungaroton and Geniun, Noemi has made numerous recordings for broadcast for the largest radio stations internationally, and her premier of Christian Mason’s Thaleia Concerto will be recorded and broadcast by Mezzo/Medici. In recent years, she has appeared as the cover artist of The Flute (Japan), The Flute View online magazine (USA), Eurowinds (Germany) and Gramofon (Hungary). She has been co-artistic director of the Arcus Temporum (2023), Ördögkatlan (2019) and IKZE Contemporary Music (2004-2009) festivals, and has co-authored the Classical Flute and Guitar Collection, a series of transcriptions of keyboard works by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven for flute and guitar, published by Doblinger Musikverlag.
Noemi is a Miyazawa Flutes artist. She plays a 14K gold LaFin headjoint, sponsored by the Solti Foundation, and a 14K gold Miyazawa Boston flute, funded by the Philip Loubser Foundation. In addition to her musical activities, in Spring 2018 Noemi launched her Noemi Collection, a series of collaboratively crafted art objects created with leading designers.
Originally from Budapest, Hungary, Noemi resides in London with her two daughters and conductor husband, Gergely Madaras.
